How Logan became Ours
We were not looking for a puppy.  We had just lost Zima and I was searching on the web for breeders of dogs we were interested in.  We wanted to make contact with a breeder and place our name on a waiting list for the spring time.  Paul and I both agreed that we liked medium to short coat breeds and preferred breeds with erect ears.  Paul likes the artic breeds with coat colors similar to wolves.  I like herding and working breeds with gray, black and tan coloring (known as Harlequin or Merle in some breeds) and black and tan coloring.

I have always wanted a Beauceron.  They are such a rare breed in the United States.  I stumbled across an ad for a female Harlequin puppy, she was older than what we were looking for.

Talking with the breeder, I was told that "Jenny" had been chosen by someone at the beginning but when she came to pick her up, she chose a different puppy.  After talking with the breeder and discussing it with Paul, we decided that "Jenny" would be a great fit with our family.

On August 11, 2006 "Jenny" flew into Boston's Logan Airport at 7:37 pm.  We were cautious when we opened the crate but out came this big puppy.  All legs.  She immediately took to Paul.  She gave me a couple of kisses and then Paul took her outside to use the bathroom, where their bond began.

During the week that we decided on getting her, we asked the boys what they wanted to name their puppy.  The name that they kept saying was Logan.  So Logan it is.

Beauceron Breed
Beaucerons are a herding breed from France, their ancestry may be part of the Doberman.  Beaucerons are also known as Berger de Beauce, the Bas Rouge, or the French Shorthaired Shepherd.

Beaucerons are a large breed dog with males 25½ to 27½ inches; females 24 to 26½ inches at the withers.  Males tend to weigh 80- 110 lbs and Females can be 60- 80 lbs.  They are distinguished by their long tails and double dewclaws.

Their ears may be kept natural or they can be cropped.  Beaucerons also must have double dewclaws on their rear legs.  They come in two acceptable color; Black and Tan (most common) and Gray, Black and Tan also known as Harlequin (in some breeds called merle) with a white spot on the chest (I was told should be no larger than an American Quarter, Place a Quarter over the white spot, no visible white should show).

They are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, entropian (eyelids rolling inward),  ectropian (eyelids rolling outward) and bloat.

AKC Status for Beaucerons

March 1, 2007 the Beauceron will be moved from FSS to Full Registration.

On June 27, 2007, The Beauceron will be moving into the Herding Group and will become eligible to compete in the regular classes on that date.

Ultra Ingredients Natural Vitamin E, combined with other natural antioxidants, keeps every bit of Ultra PUPPY nutritious and in perfect condition, without synthetic preservatives.

3 Animal Proteins Ultra PUPPY combines chicken meal, lamb meal and salmon meal to provide essential amino acids for better muscle development and overall performance.

Salmon Meal is a highly concentrated source of essential amino acids and DHA for your puppy's central nervous system development. DHA also helps provide good vision. The brain and retina contain large amounts of DHA.

Chicken Meal is a highly digestible animal protein that helps build strong muscles and provides the special amino acids needed for a lustrous hair coat.

Lamb Meal A great tasting, highly digestible animal protein for powerful muscles, strong bones and tendons.

Sunflower Oil is high in linoleic acid, the only fatty acid proven essential for healthy skin and coat. Many puppy foods contain lower levels of linoleic acid but Ultra PUPPY has more linoleic acid than other leading brands.***

Flaxseed There are many Omega 3 fatty acids but the alpha-linolenic acid in flax seed is a key Omega 3. It combines with the linoleic acid in sunflower oil and poultry fat and, along with the zinc, provides guaranteed healthy skin and shiny coat.**

Whole Brown Rice is a rich source of fiber, Vitamin B2, and minerals like iron and magnesium.

Fish Oil is another excellent source of the Omega 3 fatty acid DHA for central nervous system development and good vision.

Direct Fed Microbials Ultra PUPPY contains a source of live Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus subtilis.

Cranberry Powder Cranberry, along with its great taste, is a source of Vitamin C.

Kelp is an excellent natural source of minerals such as iodine.

Wholesome Oatmeal is a high quality carbohydrate that's easy on the stomach.

Garlic Along with the flavor puppies love, the natural goodness of garlic highly desirable in the holistic community.

Suncured Alfalfa Meal is a natural source of chlorophyll and provides fiber and carbohydrates. Chlorophyll is known to help reduce doggie breath.

Chelated Minerals are more efficiently utilized by your puppy's system.

Tomato Pomace contains unique antioxidants that help support a healthy immune system.

Poultry Fat helps provide the energy your puppy needs in a highly digestible form. Combined with sunflower oil and flaxseed, it produces an ideal fatty acid profile that's high in linoleic and linolenic acids for guaranteed supple skin and shiny coat.**
